The City of Monroe is the seat of government for Walton County. It is located almost due east of downtown Atlanta, separated from the Capitol by 44 miles. One can expect a one-hour drive to reach this small but growing community of 13,000 people. Monroe has experienced a 16% growth since the turn of the 21st century.

Antebellum homes, a historic downtown and venerable government buildings typify Monroe’s colorful history. This fine community is a perfect place for visiting historic sites, shopping, dining, or just strolling its peaceful and beautiful streets. The city offers many events and activities during the year, including parades, concerts festivals and even a marathon. Culturally, Monroe is proud of its Art Guild and its Music Guild.

Individuals and corporations find an aspect of city leadership that is unusual - its own effective, convenient and cost effective Utilities Department. This service is a community-owned, full service utility company that provides Monroe, Walton County and Oconee County with water, electricity, gas, sewer, cable TV, high-speed Internet and even voice-over-internet phone service.
