Exploring life in Acworth is a good decision, and here are fun things to know: *LAKE ALLATOONA - The Lake is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir. It covers more than 12,00 acres and has 270 miles of shoreline There are 25,000 acres of public land around the Lake, which are owned by the Army Corp. There are a number of campgrounds around the Lake, as well as public boat ramps. There are also 8 privately owned marinas that supply every boater's needs. *LAKE ACWORTH - The body of water is a man-made lake southwest of the City of Acworth. It is approximately 260 acres and features Acworth Beach, a public beach and park along the northern shore. *MASTERCRAFT PRO WAKEBOARD TOUR - Each May, over 8,000 spectators attend the contest pitting the world's best wake boarders on Lake Acworth *ACWORTH WOMEN'S 5K SPRINT TRIATHLON - held every August in Dallas Landing Park *KENNESAW MOUNTAIN BATTLEFIELD PARK - A National Battlefield encompassing 2,923 acres. Here, a pitched battle erupted between Union General William Tecumseh Sherman and General Joseph E. Johnston of the Confederate Army. The Confederates won the battle, but 5,350 soldiers died in the conflagration. *ETOWAH INDIAN MOUNDS - Located between Cartersville and Acworth, the archeological site showcases a 63-foot earthen knoll. Home to several thousand Native Americans from 1000 A.D. to 1550 A.D., this 54-acre site protects six earthen mounds, a plaza, village site, borrow pits and defensive ditch. Etowah Mounds is the most intact Mississippian Culture site in the Southeast. Artifacts in the museum show how natives of this political and religious center decorated themselves with shell beads, paint, complicated hairdos, feathers and copper ear ornaments. Hand-carved stone effigies weighing 125 pounds still bear some original pigments. Objects made of wood, seashells and stone are also displayed.
